No. 975 77R15376 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 congratulate Nadine Helen Woods on her retirement from the Houston 1-3 Independent School District as she concludes an outstanding career 1-4 dedicated to educational excellence; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Louisa, Louisiana, Mrs. Woods moved to 1-6 Houston in the early 1950s; she graduated from Jack Yates High 1-7 School and continued studies at Texas Southern University, where 1-8 she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has devoted her considerable 1-11 talents to the Houston Independent School District for 37 years, 26 1-12 of which were focused on teaching children in the Fifth Ward 1-13 community; she is retiring as a member of the staff of Nat Q. 1-14 Henderson Elementary School; and 1-15 WHEREAS, In honor of her commitment and professionalism, 1-16 Mrs. Woods has been named Teacher of the Year, grade chairperson, 1-17 and lead teacher during her fine tenure; she has also served as a 1-18 mentor for new teachers and participated on various committees; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The mother of a son, Jason S. Woods, she has shared 1-20 her faith with her fellow congregants of Trinity East United 1-21 Methodist Church for nearly 50 years; her leisure pursuits include 1-22 travel, and she is an avid sports fan; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Nadine Woods has set high 1-24 standards to which all educators may aspire, and she is indeed 2-1 worthy of special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby commend Nadine Helen Woods for her dedication to 2-4 the students of Houston and extend to her sincere best wishes for a 2-5 happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for Mrs. Woods as an expression of high regard by the 2-8 Texas House of Representatives.
