R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Michael Carlos Uresti of San Antonio is an 1-2 outstanding young Texan whose myriad achievements foretell a bright 1-3 and promising future; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The son of our esteemed colleague, the Honorable 1-5 Carlos I. Uresti, and his wife, Yolanda Acuna Uresti, Mr. Uresti is 1-6 a graduating senior at McCollum High School, where he was chosen 1-7 class president for 2000-2001; he is also a member of the National 1-8 Honor Society, has participated in peer mediation and crisis 1-9 management teams on his campus, and has been listed in Who's Who 1-10 Among American Students of Academic Excellence for the Year 2000; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, A natural leader, he has been active in Cub Scouts 1-13 and Boy Scouts since he was nine, and he achieved the prestigious 1-14 rank of Eagle Scout this year; he has also served as battalion 1-15 commander, color guard commander, and honor guard commander of the 1-16 JROTC at McCollum High School and was named superior cadet in 2000 1-17 and 2001; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Uresti was nominated for admission to the United 1-19 States Naval Academy by Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez, and he has 1-20 been accepted as a student by The University of Texas at Austin, 1-21 The Citadel, and Texas A&M University, for which he received a 1-22 JROTC Scholarship; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Uresti's participation in a number of special 1-24 projects, including the NASA Aerospace Scholars Program, the U.S. 2-1 Naval Academy Summer Camp, and a 1999 Youth Against Summer Violence 2-2 Summit indicate this exceptional young man's sense of 2-3 responsibility and commitment to excellence; he has also worked as 2-4 a clerk in a San Antonio law office since 1997; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Initiative, dedication, and maturity are but a few 2-6 of the attributes that make Mr. Uresti so noteworthy; he sets the 2-7 highest of standards for himself and, as a result, serves as an 2-8 impressive role model for all who know him; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby congratulate Michael Carlos Uresti on his 2-11 scholastic excellence and outstanding accomplishments and extend to 2-12 him sincere best wishes for great success and happiness in all his 2-13 future endeavors; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Mr. Uresti as an expression of high regard by the 2-16 Texas House of Representatives.
