R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Amarillo College Theater School for Children
 1-2     (ACTS) fosters artistic education, expression, and development in
 1-3     children, engaging viewers and participants alike in a manner
 1-4     designed to build self-esteem and awareness in young people through
 1-5     its numerous programs and productions; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Positively affecting Amarillo and surrounding areas,
 1-7     ACTS has bused more than 150,000 students from public and private
 1-8     schools to live theater productions at the college; to date, the
 1-9     school has prepared over 3,000 young actors for appearances in 65
1-10     major productions, and its students have played to audiences of
1-11     3,700 to 4,500 people per show; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The school has worked with more than 75 civic
1-13     organizations and corporations, and its actors have shared
1-14     important social messages while touring 33 elementary and middle
1-15     schools and working with young athletes in the Special Olympics as
1-16     well as at-risk children at Buckner Children's Home, the Home for
1-17     Domestic Violence, and the Tyler Resource Center; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The success of the school would not be possible
1-19     without the leadership of director Linda Dee Hughes and assistant
1-20     director Mary Reynolds and the support of the Amarillo Children's
1-21     Theater Guild, Inc., which organizes fund-raising efforts, provides
1-22     production assistance, and promotes the school's many notable
1-23     programs; and
1-24           WHEREAS, The Theater School for Children is a source of great
 2-1     pride for Amarillo College and has enhanced the lives of countless
 2-2     young people; now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby honor the Amarillo College Theater School for
 2-5     Children for its outstanding accomplishments; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the
 2-8     Texas House of Representatives.
