By Gallego H.R. No. 991 77R14395 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 C. V. Uranga of San Antonio on his 80th birthday, which he is 1-3 spending celebrating with family and friends in Lisbon, Portugal; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Alpine, he was born on April 30, 1921, 1-6 to Guillerma Vizcaino and Clemente J. Uranga, a respected citizen 1-7 in the Presidio and Brewster County area who established the C. J. 1-8 Uranga Grocery; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Uranga served his country with distinction as a 1-10 member of the United States Army, participating in five European 1-11 campaigns and receiving the "V" Bronze Star among his decorations; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, After the war, he returned to Alpine and opened 1-14 Charlie's Food Market, the first of several highly successful 1-15 entrepreneurial ventures; after 10 years operating the thriving 1-16 business, he moved to Eagle Pass and established an oil company 1-17 that eventually grew to become one of the largest suppliers to 1-18 Pemex in Mexico, Shell Oil in Central America, and others; after 21 1-19 years, the company was merged with Mid American Pipeline based in 1-20 Tulsa, Oklahoma; and 1-21 WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. Uranga, then a San Antonio resident, 1-22 became involved in real estate development in that area, including 1-23 the Uranga Towers project near the airport; during his exceptional 1-24 professional life, his business acumen also led him to investment 2-1 in banks as well as a savings and loan; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Retired for the past decade, this remarkable 2-3 gentleman continues to travel extensively, and his treks have taken 2-4 him to many locations throughout the world, including Europe, South 2-5 America, Africa, Russia, China, and Alaska; and 2-6 WHEREAS, His 80th birthday provides a fitting opportunity to 2-7 recognize this truly noteworthy Texan for his many achievements; 2-8 now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby congratulate C. V. Uranga on the occasion of his 2-11 80th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued 2-12 happiness; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mr. Uranga as an expression of high regard by the 2-15 Texas House of Representatives.
