No. 997 77R15341 MJS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The 2000-2001 boys basketball team from Ozen High 1-2 School in Beaumont won the UIL Class 4A state championship with a 1-3 convincing 58-42 victory against San Antonio Lanier High School, 1-4 and this sterling accomplishment merits special legislative 1-5 recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Head coach Andre Boutte and the rest of his coaching 1-7 staff guided Ozen to the District 19-4A title and to a spotless 1-8 36-0 overall record this season; in addition, they had the Panthers 1-9 ably prepared for their championship showdown against the San 1-10 Antonio Lanier Voks; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In the state tournament held at the Frank Erwin 1-12 Center on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin, Ozen was 1-13 led by tournament MVP Kendrick Perkins, who scored 17 points, 1-14 grabbed 14 rebounds, and recorded five blocks in the state title 1-15 contest; moreover, this outstanding 6-foot-11 sophomore tossed in 1-16 31 points to help the Panthers defeat Hereford High School in the 1-17 state semifinals; and 1-18 WHEREAS, San Antonio Lanier was also overwhelmed by Ozen's 1-19 stifling defense, which held the Voks to two points in the first 1-20 quarter and limited them to 30.2 percent field goal shooting for 1-21 the game; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible 1-23 without the important contributions from all of the team members, 1-24 including Reginald Tyrrel, James Wilson, Desmond Cooper, Jason 2-1 Breckinridge, Keena Young, Anthony Daigle, Kendrick Perkins, 2-2 Michael Thomas, Javin Clover, Brandon Rideau, Tigee Rideaux, Jason 2-3 Dabney, Tyrone Haynes, Thomas Sigee, Albert Marshall, Brandon 2-4 Chappell, Allen Colbert, Wesley Bryant, Allen James, and Rayburn 2-5 Morris; additional support was provided by assistant coaches Harry 2-6 Gunner, Marquis Saveat, Harvey Bobs, Jr., John Clayton, Michael 2-7 Ryals, Walter Yates, Jr., and trainer Shawn Klinger; and 2-8 WHEREAS, For the players and coaches to complete such a 2-9 magical season at Ozen High School, which is in its fourth year of 2-10 existence and third year of competing in varsity athletics, is a 2-11 testament to their hard work, dedication, and training; as the 2-12 Panthers take great pride and satisfaction in their myriad 2-13 achievements, it is indeed fitting to pay tribute to them; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby congratulate the 2000-2001 Ozen High School boys 2-17 basketball team for winning the UIL Class 4A state championship and 2-18 extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be 2-19 it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the Ozen High School boys basketball team as an 2-22 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
