                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Marion Elizabeth James Kelly of Houston celebrated
 1-2     her 92nd birthday on March 30, 2001, and on this occasion it is
 1-3     most appropriate to honor this beloved retired kindergarten
 1-4     teacher; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Kelly was born in St. Hedwig
 1-6     and spent many of her formative years in Central Texas; she
 1-7     graduated from Huston-Tillotson College before earning her master's
 1-8     degree in education from Texas Southern University; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, She married Lorenzo Kelly, and the couple were
1-10     blessed with two cherished children, Jean NaVelle and Reginald
1-11     LeRoy; she has watched her close-knit family grow to include two
1-12     granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, and a host of nieces
1-13     and nephews; and
1-14           WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Mrs. Kelly was employed as a
1-15     teacher in Guadalupe and Harris counties; a kindergarten teacher
1-16     who made a tremendous impact on the lives of her students and their
1-17     families, she is known and loved for the respect she showed to and
1-18     the discipline she expected from her students; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A resident of Houston's Third Ward, Mrs. Kelly was
1-20     an active member of the Houston Pharmaceutical Association
1-21     Auxiliary, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Eastern Star, and
1-22     the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church on Dowling Street; and
1-23           WHEREAS, With nine decades of wonderful memories, a loving
1-24     family, and close friends, Mrs. Kelly truly has reason to
 2-1     celebrate, and it is a privilege to join in honoring her at this
 2-2     time; now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby congratulate Marion Elizabeth James Kelly on her
 2-5     92nd birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for much
 2-6     happiness in the future; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for Mrs. Kelly as an expression of high regard by the
 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
