                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On April 7, 2001, Rosita Ornelas of Guadalupe County
 1-2     became the first female disc jockey to be inducted into the Tejano
 1-3     Music Hall of Fame; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Her illustrious radio career began in the early
 1-5     1950s in Seguin when she assisted the KWED radio Spanish language
 1-6     director between her split shifts as a waitress; in 1963, she
 1-7     became Spanish program director and developed into a living legend
 1-8     to thousands of people in South Texas as popularity mounted for her
 1-9     news and music dedication program, "Cita Con Rosita"; since 1985,
1-10     Ms. Ornelas has been affiliated with KWED's Daily News publication;
1-11     and
1-12           WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous requests to be mistress of
1-13     ceremonies for functions ranging from Quincentieras to fiestas,
1-14     Ms. Ornelas has been honored by city and county governments as they
1-15     observed Rosita Ornelas Day; she has been presented the
1-16     Distinguished Community Service Award by Texas Lutheran University,
1-17     and the Seguin-Guadalupe County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has
1-18     established the Rosita Ornelas Media Award to recognize individuals
1-19     who perform exceptional acts of community service; and
1-20           WHEREAS, A commitment to Tejano music programs and a devotion
1-21     to  the community are exemplary traits consistently exhibited by
1-22     this pioneer in the Tejano movement, and she truly deserves special
1-23     recognition; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby congratulate Rosita Ornelas on her entrance into
 2-2     the Tejano Music Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes
 2-3     for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared for Ms. Ornelas as an expression of high regard by the
 2-6     Texas House of Representatives.
