R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Carolyn Jean Taplin of Richmond is celebrating her
1-2 50th birthday this year, and the occasion provides a fitting
1-3 opportunity to reflect on her myriad achievements; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born on May 16, 1951, in Georgetown, to Georgia
1-5 Violet Cauffman McDonald and William Elmer McDonald, she moved to
1-6 Freer with her family as a young child and was raised with two
1-7 sisters, Oma and Shirley; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Today Mrs. Taplin is married with a family of her
1-9 own, including her husband, Harry Albert Taplin, Jr., and her
1-10 daughters and son-in-law, Tara Taplin and Angela and Dan Tilly; she
1-11 also enjoys close ties with her niece, Jamie, and seven nephews,
1-12 Rick, Brad, Lynn, Robert, Jimmy, Mike, and Jeff, to whom she is
1-13 known as Aunt Lunnie; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Since 1985, Mrs. Taplin has assisted her husband in
1-15 his civil engineering and surveying company, Taplin Engineering,
1-16 while serving her household as cook, housekeeper, chauffeur,
1-17 counselor, mediator, and teacher; an exemplary role model, she has
1-18 never been convicted of any crime, although theft of salt and
1-19 pepper shakers has on occasion been alleged; and
1-20 WHEREAS, A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Taplin founded Moms in
1-21 Touch, a group of mothers who meet each week to pray for their
1-22 children; in addition, in her capacity as women's mission director
1-23 for Grand Parkway Baptist Church, she shares her time and energy to
1-24 assist area women's shelters, helping to organize Easter egg hunts
2-1 and coordinating the Angel Tree project, which provided 670 meals
2-2 and gifts for families involved with Protective Services in 2000;
2-3 and
2-4 WHEREAS, Despite her busy schedule, Mrs. Taplin occasionally
2-5 manages to find time to hone her skills as an avid tennis player,
2-6 and she won her last match this spring in a nail-biting tiebreaker;
2-7 and
2-8 WHEREAS, Carolyn Taplin has long dedicated herself to her
2-9 family, her church, and her community, and in doing so, she has
2-10 touched the lives of many people; now, therefore, be it
2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-12 Legislature hereby congratulate Carolyn Jean Taplin on the joyous
2-13 occasion of her 50th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
2-14 for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16 prepared for Mrs. Taplin as an expression of high regard by the
2-17 Texas House of Representatives.
