R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The opening of Paul C. Moreno Elementary School has 1-2 ushered in an exciting new era of educational opportunity for 1-3 students in the El Paso Independent School District; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The first school in the district to be named for a 1-5 sitting state representative and the longest-tenured Hispanic 1-6 member of the house, Moreno Elementary School is a state-of-the-art 1-7 facility that opened for summer school classes last year and 1-8 currently serves more than 400 students on its main campus and at 1-9 the Paul C. Moreno Annex; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The school is led by principal Irma Ortega, who as 1-11 the school's first Hispanic administrator is a fitting role model 1-12 for its predominantly Hispanic population, and she is supported in 1-13 her worthy goals by excellent staff who are committed to providing 1-14 an exemplary education to their students enrolled in 1-15 prekindergarten through the fifth grade, as well as to their 1-16 middle- and secondary-school-aged students with special needs; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The only school in the district to feature a 1-18 therapeutic swimming pool, the facility also features oversized 1-19 doorways and hallways and other classroom accommodations to help 1-20 meet the needs of its students with multiple disabilities; and 1-21 WHEREAS, El Pasoans may take pride in the school's diverse 1-22 instructional education programs and enrichment activities, for 1-23 they have been implemented to enhance the learning experience of 1-24 all of the school's students; and 2-1 WHEREAS, The staff of Paul C. Moreno Elementary School has 2-2 dedicated itself to the total education of its students, helping to 2-3 develop tomorrow's leaders with pride and determination, and the 2-4 school represents a significant new addition to the state's public 2-5 school system; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby commemorate the first year of operation of Paul 2-8 C. Moreno Elementary School and commend all those associated with 2-9 the school for their commitment to academic excellence.
