R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Matthew Chen Fletcher of Boy Scouts of America Troop 1-2 70 has completed the requirements necessary to attain the rank of 1-3 Eagle Scout, and his Court of Honor is being held on May 19, 2001; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, Receiving the Eagle Scout badge is an extremely rare 1-6 honor, bestowed on only a fraction of those who enter the scouting 1-7 movement, and by fulfilling the rank's demanding criteria, he has 1-8 achieved a remarkable feat; and 1-9 WHEREAS, To attain this prestigious honor, Mr. Fletcher 1-10 earned the required 21 merit badges and successfully completed his 1-11 Eagle Scout project; for this project, he planned and built storage 1-12 cabinets in the home of a church pastor in Piedras Negras, Mexico, 1-13 providing a much-needed asset to this impoverished community; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Fletcher joined Cub Scouts at the age of six and 1-15 has been a Boy Scout for the last five years, and he has 1-16 demonstrated outstanding leadership ability throughout his tenure 1-17 with the organization; he has served as senior patrol leader, and 1-18 by earning both the coveted Arrow of Light and the God and Country 1-19 Award, he has garnered the respect and admiration of his fellow 1-20 scouts; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The son of Douglas and Wesla Fletcher, this fine 1-22 young man is a freshman at Westlake High School, where he is a 1-23 member of the school's lacrosse team and band; in addition, he is 1-24 an active volunteer, giving generously of his time and talents to 2-1 support missions along the Mexican border as well as in his home 2-2 community; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Eagle Scout Fletcher's dedication to excellence and 2-4 his perseverance in the pursuit of his goals have proven him worthy 2-5 to stand among scouting's elite, and it is truly appropriate that 2-6 he be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Chen Fletcher on attaining 2-9 the rank of Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-10 continued success and happiness; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mr. Fletcher as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
