No. 1032 77R15874 GMW-F R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In May 2001, 12 delegates from Greece and Turkey are 1-2 visiting the United States under the auspices of the American 1-3 Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL); and 1-4 WHEREAS, The delegates join the ACYPL in fostering an 1-5 increased understanding between countries that historically have 1-6 had differing points of view by creating an open atmosphere in 1-7 which to generate constructive dialogue; and 1-8 WHEREAS, While in the United States, the Greek and Turkish 1-9 delegates are visiting Washington, D.C., attending a seminar on 1-10 national government, and visiting two states to participate in 1-11 discussions about local government; the programs will address a 1-12 wide range of topics, including governance, diversity, the 1-13 environment, civic participation, and challenges inherent in 1-14 serving a nation's citizenry; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Other significant issues selected specifically by 1-16 the Greek and Turkish delegates will be covered to illuminate areas 1-17 of potential cooperation; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Through its leadership and commitment to spreading 1-19 international goodwill, the ACYPL has made valuable efforts to 1-20 unite with leaders of other countries and to bolster relations 1-21 among and between the next generation of political leadership in 1-22 countries with divergent opinions and the United States, and it is 1-23 indeed most fitting to honor the delegates who are participating in 1-24 this worthy endeavor; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby honor the delegates from Greece and Turkey for 2-3 coming together to the United States to share, learn, and 2-4 contribute to understanding issues and each other and for their 2-5 extraordinary efforts toward solving problems for future 2-6 generations in our respective countries; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the delegates from Greece and Turkey as an expression 2-9 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
