R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The citizens of El Paso recently lost a beloved
1-2 neighbor and respected entrepreneur with the passing of Lilia
1-3 Natalia De-Cory Arrambide on May 7, 2001, at the age of 93; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Mexico, Mrs. Arrambide was born in Casa
1-5 Grandes in 1907 and immigrated to the United States with her family
1-6 in 1910, eventually settling in El Paso; she enjoyed many wonderful
1-7 years of marriage to Jesus Arrambide and the couple were blessed
1-8 with three cherished children; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Arrambide was an astute businesswoman who,
1-10 along with her husband and son, cultivated a flourishing restaurant
1-11 chain, Pancho's Mexican Buffet, after discovering the tremendous
1-12 appeal of the 99-cent buffet at her first restaurant, Frank's, in
1-13 downtown El Paso; since its founding in 1954, Pancho's Mexican
1-14 Buffet, Inc., grew to include 49 restaurants in Louisiana,
1-15 Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Actively involved in the corporation until the
1-17 1980s, this exceptional woman was an admired member of her
1-18 community and the Lone Star State, and while she will be greatly
1-19 missed, her enduring legacy will live on for years to come; now,
1-20 therefore, be it
1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-22 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lilia Natalia De-Cory
1-23 Arrambide and extend sincere sympathy to her two daughters, Mary
1-24 Correa and Lilia Reade, and her other relatives and many friends;
2-1 and, be it further
2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-3 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-4 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-5 Lilia Natalia De-Cory Arrambide.
