                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The academic teams from La Vernia High School
 1-2     achieved great success at the 2001 University Interscholastic
 1-3     League (UIL) Small School Academic Contest Championship in Corpus
 1-4     Christi; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, La Vernia's Academic Team Q captured first place and
 1-6     its Academic Team I finished third overall in the challenging
 1-7     competition; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Association of Community
 1-9     Schools, this prestigious academic meet began as a regional contest
1-10     and grew to a statewide competition by 1993; all schools that are
1-11     considered Class 3A or below by the UIL are eligible to
1-12     participate; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Principal Ronald Haug served as the teams' coach and
1-14     had them ably prepared for the academic competition; in addition,
1-15     his valuable support and guidance helped stoke their competitive
1-16     spirit; and
1-17           WHEREAS, The teams' superb performances at the academic meet
1-18     would not have been possible without the significant contributions
1-19     of all of the talented team members, including Team Q's Chris Deal,
1-20     Staci Eichman, and Harmony Staffy, and Team I's Dustin Dembin,
1-21     William Huff, and Bryan Pfluger; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Through their dedication and pursuit of academic
1-23     excellence, these young Texas students came together to accomplish
1-24     a collective goal; while demonstrating their academic achievement,
 2-1     they have brought great honor to their school and community, and it
 2-2     is indeed appropriate that their hard work and persistence be
 2-3     accorded special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby commend the students of La Vernia High School
 2-6     for their outstanding accomplishments at the 2001 UIL Small School
 2-7     Academic Contest Championship and extend to them sincere best
 2-8     wishes for continued happiness and good fortune in their future
 2-9     endeavors; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for these exemplary La Vernia High School students as an
2-12     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
