R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, This chamber is pleased to honor the life
1-2 accomplishments of George Fletcher Cauthen of Houston, who is a
1-3 World War II veteran, Abilene Christian College graduate, and
1-4 well-traveled preacher; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Cauthen joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in
1-6 February 1936, serving with honor throughout World War II as a tech
1-7 sergeant; and
1-8 WHEREAS, After the war, he attended Abilene Christian College
1-9 on the G.I. Bill and majored in Bible and church music; answering a
1-10 strong calling for the ministry, he preached on weekends in the
1-11 neighboring towns of Okra and Dunn, where he was popular as an
1-12 impassioned and inspiring minister; and
1-13 WHEREAS, In 1951, Mr. Cauthen embarked on a full-time
1-14 ministry in Chico, California, which began an outstanding 45-year
1-15 career that took him across the world; he preached in Jackson,
1-16 Mississippi, and Mobile, Alabama, and for 39 years in various towns
1-17 in Texas; he took his family and his ministry as far away as
1-18 Australia, where he traveled throughout Victoria conducting Bible
1-19 studies and making lifelong friendships; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Retiring in 1995 at the age of 79, this esteemed
1-21 gentleman has forged an enduring legacy administering to the
1-22 spiritual needs of countless individuals whose lives are better
1-23 because of his devotion to helping others; now, therefore, be it
1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives hereby commend
2-1 the myriad accomplishments of George Fletcher Cauthen and extend to
2-2 him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
2-3 be it further
2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-5 prepared for Mr. Cauthen as an expression of high regard by the
2-6 Texas House of Representatives.
