R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Plano is 1-2 celebrating the opening of its new sanctuary on April 22, 2001, and 1-3 this auspicious event is indeed worthy of special recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, One of the oldest continuously operating churches in 1-5 Plano, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church dates back to 1884, when 1-6 four charter members, Ammon Drake, Lula Drake, Minnie Drake 1-7 Stewart, and Kanzetta Bowen, organized as the Mt. Zion Colored 1-8 Baptist Church under the leadership of the Reverend Z. T. Stewart; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, Blessed with a number of fine religious leaders over 1-11 the last century, the church has thrived under the pastorship of 1-12 the Reverend Isiah Joshua, Jr., since he responded to the call to 1-13 lead this congregation in 1994; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Services were first held in a modest structure 1-15 lighted by coal oil lamps and heated by a wood-burning stove; the 1-16 church has been expanded through the years, and today, it has a 1-17 faithful congregation of several hundred members, including a few 1-18 descendants of its founders; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Shiloh continues to hold a special place in the life 1-20 of the Plano community, which it serves through worship services 1-21 and educational and outreach programs, and it is truly fitting that 1-22 it be recognized on this important occasion in its history; now, 1-23 therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Isiah Joshua, Jr., and 2-2 the congregation of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on the 2-3 dedication of their new sanctuary and extend to them sincere best 2-4 wishes for the future; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Plano as an 2-7 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
