R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Don T. Haynes, Jr., has served as director of bands 1-2 at LBJ High School in Austin for 25 years; and 1-3 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, he 1-4 earned a master's degree in music and was a member of the Longhorn 1-5 Marching Band; he also studied at Del Mar College in his hometown 1-6 of Corpus Christi; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Under Mr. Haynes's dynamic leadership, the LBJ bands 1-8 have won national and international recognition over the course of 1-9 the past quarter-century; the LBJ Jaguar Band performed a concert 1-10 in London and toured France in 2000, became the first band in a 1-11 decade to represent Austin in the State UIL Marching Competition in 1-12 1997, and was the only United States band to be invited to the New 1-13 Year's Day parade in London in 1996; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The LBJ bands' well-deserved accolades include 1-15 consistent Division I and Sweepstakes honors at UIL marching and 1-16 concert competitions, first- and second-place awards at band 1-17 festivals in Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, California, and Colorado, 1-18 and first place at the Fiesta Bowl competition in 1978; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A highly regarded judge of UIL marching and concert 1-20 contests throughout the Lone Star State, Mr. Haynes is regularly 1-21 called upon to share his extensive knowledge at clinic band 1-22 programs in Texas, Florida, and New Mexico; selected Teacher of the 1-23 Year many times, Mr. Haynes has furthered community harmony in 1-24 Austin by bringing together LBJ band parents from diverse 2-1 backgrounds to work for the benefit of children from across the 2-2 city; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Don Haynes continues to be an exemplary role model 2-4 for the students at LBJ High School, and it is truly a privilege to 2-5 join his family and friends in honoring him at this time; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Don T. Haynes, Jr., as he 2-9 celebrates his 25th anniversary as director of bands for LBJ High 2-10 School in Austin; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mr. Haynes as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
