R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Wichita Falls Police Department recently earned 1-2 accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law 1-3 Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA); and 1-4 WHEREAS, An independent, nonprofit organization, the 1-5 commission was founded by four law enforcement membership entities: 1-6 the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National 1-7 Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the National 1-8 Sheriffs' Association, and the Police Executive Research Forum; 1-9 CALEA is composed of police chiefs, sheriffs, elected officials, 1-10 and community leaders appointed by the four founding organizations; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, To earn accreditation, agencies must enter the 1-13 program voluntarily and then meet or exceed all 439 of CALEA's 1-14 standards, which address areas of administration, operation, and 1-15 technical support; the three-year award is presented only after an 1-16 agency passes a rigorous evaluation performed by CALEA's trained 1-17 team of assessors and a postassessment hearing before the 1-18 commission; and 1-19 WHEREAS, With its accreditation, the Wichita Falls Police 1-20 Department joins an elite group of more than 500 law enforcement 1-21 agencies in the United States, Canada, and Barbados that have 1-22 received this prestigious international recognition, and it is a 1-23 privilege to commend all the members of this noteworthy department 1-24 for their commitment to professional excellence; now, therefore, be 2-1 it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate the Wichita Falls Police Department 2-4 on receiving accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for 2-5 Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for the Wichita Falls Police Department as an expression 2-8 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
