R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Guy Harrison of Longview is the 2001-2002 1-2 president-elect of the State Bar of Texas; and 1-3 WHEREAS, A native of Longview, Mr. Harrison earned his 1-4 bachelor's and doctoral degrees at Southern Methodist University in 1-5 Dallas before embarking on a distinguished career in law; and 1-6 WHEREAS, For more than 37 years, Mr. Harrison has been 1-7 practicing law and has proven himself to be a leader in his 1-8 profession; he was elected to the State Bar Board of Directors in 1-9 1995 and served as chairman of the board in 1997-1998; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison has worked on a State Bar grievance 1-11 panel and was accorded a State Bar Presidential Citation in 2000 1-12 for his work in reviewing and streamlining the committee structure 1-13 of the State Bar; he is also a life fellow of the Texas Bar 1-14 Foundation and has been on its board of trustees since 1998; 1-15 moreover, he is a charter member of the Gregg County Family Law 1-16 Council and was named the Outstanding Attorney by the Gregg County 1-17 Pro Bono Project in 1993; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Actively involved in the community, he has donated 1-19 his time and energies to many civic-oriented organizations and has 1-20 served as a board member, officer, and president of Crisman School 1-21 for Children with Learning Disabilities and as a board member of 1-22 the regional and national YMCA of the USA; Mr. Harrison is a 1-23 devoted family man, and he and his wife, Lucy, have two sons, 1-24 Parker and Worth, and two grandchildren; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison has made significant and positive 2-2 contributions to the Lone Star State through his valuable legal and 2-3 community efforts; his impressive record of service has earned the 2-4 respect and admiration of many of his colleagues and peers, and he 2-5 is most deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Guy Harrison, 2001-2002 2-8 president-elect of the State Bar of Texas, and extend to him 2-9 sincere best wishes for continued success and good fortune; and, be 2-10 it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mr. Harrison as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
