R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Houstonian Marjorie Mae Dutton Perry is a noteworthy
 1-2     role model for her fellow congregants at Mount Ararat Missionary
 1-3     Baptist Church, and she is most deserving of special recognition;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native of Patterson, Louisiana, Mrs. Perry was
 1-6     raised with five siblings in a loving home where her parents placed
 1-7     an emphasis on family life and prayer; she attended primary grades
 1-8     in Houston schools before returning to her home state to attend New
 1-9     Orleans High School and to major in English literature at New
1-10     Orleans University; while an undergraduate, she wrote a poem,
1-11     "Africa, My Native Country," which was a prizewinner in an English
1-12     literature contest; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The former Marjorie Mae Dutton married Forrest Perry
1-14     in 1927, and the couple enjoyed a 53-year loving partnership that
1-15     was blessed with three children, Raymond T., Forrest Mae, and
1-16     LaRone T. Perry; through the years, Mrs. Perry has welcomed six
1-17     cherished grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one
1-18     great-great-grandchild into her close-knit family; and
1-19           WHEREAS, This lovely lady chose to devote herself to the
1-20     well-being of her family as a homemaker, and she guided her
1-21     children to exhibit sound judgment and a caring nature; leading by
1-22     example, she contributed to her community by encouraging others to
1-23     vote and by volunteering as a precinct worker at the polls; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Since accepting Christ as her savior and being
 2-1     baptized at the age of nine, Mrs. Perry has demonstrated unwavering
 2-2     faith; she taught the beginners' Sunday school class at Mount
 2-3     Ararat Missionary Baptist Church for more than 30 years and served
 2-4     as president of the Mount Ararat Missionary Society and second vice
 2-5     president of the Independent Missionary Baptist Association of
 2-6     Texas Missionary Society; she has also participated in the choir
 2-7     and served as coordinator of missions, including senior and junior
 2-8     missions and youth auxiliaries; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Marjorie Perry has shown a
2-10     deep commitment to her family, her church, and her community, and
2-11     it is a pleasure to join in commending her for her significant
2-12     efforts; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-14     Legislature hereby commend Marjorie Mae Dutton Perry for her
2-15     exceptional commitment to Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church
2-16     and extend to her sincere best wishes for good fortune and
2-17     happiness in the future; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-19     prepared for Mrs. Perry as an expression of high regard by the
2-20     Texas House of Representatives.
