R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The retirement of Claude Lelius Cole after 47 years
 1-2     with the Houston Independent School District (ISD) brings to a
 1-3     close the distinguished career of an outstanding educator; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman received his bachelor's
 1-5     degree from Tennessee State University and obtained a master's
 1-6     degree at Texas Southern University; he also attended graduate
 1-7     school at the University of Oklahoma; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A former sergeant in the United States Army and
 1-9     artillery school instructor at Fort Bliss, Mr. Cole has been
1-10     assistant principal at Barbara Jordan High School for Careers for
1-11     more than 20 years; he served as an assistant principal at Houston
1-12     Technical Institute and W. E. Miller Junior High School and was a
1-13     science teacher and department chairman at Jack Yates High School;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, He has donated his time and energies to such
1-16     professional organizations as the Houston Association of School
1-17     Administrators and the Houston and Texas alliances of Black School
1-18     Educators; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Actively involved in the community, Mr. Cole is a
1-20     member of the King David #2500 Masonic Lodge and the Good Hope
1-21     Missionary Baptist Church, where he is treasurer and is on the
1-22     board of trustees; he also is a life member of the Tennessee State
1-23     University Alumni Association, National Home Garden Club, and the
1-24     Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Mr. Cole's family, consisting
 2-2     of his wife, Nell Grovey Cole, daughter and son-in-law, Jonnelle
 2-3     and Kenny Hollins, and three grandchildren, has given him much joy
 2-4     and fulfillment; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, During his exemplary tenure in education, Mr. Cole
 2-6     has been an immeasurable source of wisdom and guidance for numerous
 2-7     students, faculty, and administrators, and it is most appropriate
 2-8     to pay tribute to him as he begins a new chapter in his life; now,
 2-9     therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-11     Legislature hereby honor Claude Lelius Cole on the occasion of his
2-12     retirement from the Houston ISD and extend to him sincere best
2-13     wishes for happiness and good fortune in his future endeavors; and,
2-14     be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16     prepared for Mr. Cole as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-17     House of Representatives.
