R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 the Ponder High School Lions boys basketball team on winning the
1-3 2001 UIL Class 2A state championship; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Having cruised to a 69-54 victory over Grapeland
1-5 High School in the state semifinals, the Lions went on to overwhelm
1-6 Danbury High School 59-40 to claim the coveted state title and
1-7 complete the 2000-2001 campaign with a record of 28-7; and
1-8 WHEREAS, This storybook season was the result of total
1-9 dedication to the team concept by players Lance Boxell, who was
1-10 named tournament most valuable player, Matt Hatmaker, Josh Linam,
1-11 Anthony Galindo, Kyle Fletcher, Kyler Blevins, Ben Bordlemay,
1-12 Jeremy Young, who placed on the all-tournament team, Jeff Gray,
1-13 Derek Bryson, Matt Routh, Mansouf Khoury, Nick Bordlemay, Limmie
1-14 Terrell, and Senator Barnes, also an all-tournament team selection;
1-15 and
1-16 WHEREAS, Head coach Doug Boxell provided exceptional
1-17 inspiration and leadership to his young charges, enabling them to
1-18 fulfill their championship dream, and he was ably supported in his
1-19 efforts by assistant coaches Jude Stanley and Mark Low; and
1-20 WHEREAS, These dedicated young athletes, along with their
1-21 coaches and staff, are a source of great pride to the students and
1-22 faculty at Ponder High School, as well as their many supporters in
1-23 the community, and it is indeed appropriate that they receive
1-24 special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Ponder High
2-3 School Lions boys basketball team on winning the 2001 UIL Class 2A
2-4 state title and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
2-5 success; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the Ponder High School boys basketball team as an
2-8 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
