No. 1127 77R16755 MW-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Soon after the Texas Highway Department, now the 1-2 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), was created in 1917, it 1-3 established a research relationship with the Agricultural and 1-4 Mechanical College of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, In 1926, the department held its first 1-6 Transportation Short Course on the Texas A&M University campus, and 1-7 the Short Course has been held continually on the campus since that 1-8 time; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The faculty, staff, and students of Texas A&M 1-10 University have consistently offered warm Aggie hospitality to all 1-11 those attending the Short Course; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The annual Short Course provides a unique 1-13 opportunity for TxDOT employees to learn about the latest 1-14 technologies and new research that has been conducted by faculty 1-15 and researchers from the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and 1-16 Texas A&M University; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In addition to the knowledge gained from technical 1-18 sessions, the annual meeting also strengthens the cooperative 1-19 working relationship between TxDOT and TTI, which is one of the 1-20 keys to Texas' leadership in transportation; and 1-21 WHEREAS, This relationship between researchers and 1-22 implementers has resulted in saving thousands of lives and billions 1-23 of dollars for the people of Texas and the United States; and 1-24 WHEREAS, A sustainable and efficient transportation system is 2-1 essential for the State of Texas in the 21st century; these two 2-2 organizations will help to create and maintain that system, and 2-3 their 75 years of cooperation is worthy of legislative recognition; 2-4 now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representantives of the 77th 2-6 Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas Department of 2-7 Transportation and the Texas Transportation Institute on the 2-8 occasion of the 75th annual Transportation Short Course.
