R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On June 30, 2001, Charles E. and Evelyn Cernik of
 1-2     Houston observe a joyous occasion in their marriage as they
 1-3     celebrate their golden wedding anniversary; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Joined in marriage on June 30, 1951, in Galveston,
 1-5     at First Lutheran Church, the Cerniks enjoy a warm and fulfilling
 1-6     relationship that serves as an inspiration to all those who know
 1-7     and admire them; they take great pride in their family, which
 1-8     includes a daughter, Carolyn Cernik Weaver, and her husband, Gary,
 1-9     and a son, Charles Curtis Cernik, and his wife, Adele; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Mrs. Cernik earned a degree in microbiology from The
1-11     University of Texas at Austin in 1951, while Mr. Cernik received an
1-12     electrical engineering degree from Rice University in 1950; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Both native Texans, the couple have made their home
1-14     in the Oak Forest neighborhood of Houston since 1952; they share
1-15     their faith as congregants of St. James Evangelical Lutheran
1-16     Church, and they are active members of the Memorial Hermann
1-17     Northwest Hospital Auxiliary; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mrs. Cernik, who has written the popular "Potpourri"
1-19     column in The Leader for the past quarter-century, is a lifetime
1-20     member of Girl Scouts of the USA and an active participant with the
1-21     Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Together, this devoted couple have shared the trials
1-23     and triumphs of five decades; their commitment to each other is a
1-24     source of great pride to their family and many friends, and it is
 2-1     indeed appropriate that they be honored at this time; now,
 2-2     therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby congratulate Charles E. and Evelyn Cernik on
 2-5     their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest wishes on
 2-6     this momentous occasion; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Cernik as an expression of high regard by
 2-9     the Texas House of Representatives.
