R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, originated in
 1-2     prehistoric China and is an ancient practice for the mind and body
 1-3     consisting of gentle movements and meditation; practiced by people
 1-4     of all ages in more than 40 countries, the tradition has at its
 1-5     core the principles of truthfulness, benevolence, and tolerance;
 1-6     and
 1-7           WHEREAS, In 1992, Li Hongzhi introduced Falun Dafa to the
 1-8     general public of China; he came to Houston in 1996 and has given
 1-9     numerous free workshops to help anyone interested in learning the
1-10     practice; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Since Li Hongzhi introduced Falun Dafa to the public
1-12     nine years ago, it has become a popular method of refining the body
1-13     and mind through exercise and meditation; in the ensuing years, he
1-14     and others who have become practitioners of Falun Dafa have helped
1-15     countless Texans to gain increased levels of energy and to lead
1-16     healthier, less stressful lives; now, therefore, be it
1-17           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-18     Legislature hereby recognize May 13, 2001, as World Falun Dafa Day
1-19     and applaud the noteworthy efforts of Li Hongzhi and all the
1-20     followers of this ancient practice.
