R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the retirement from public office of
1-2 Shiner Mayor Arthur T. Ward, whose 20 years of distinguished
1-3 service represents the longest tenure of any mayor in the city's
1-4 history; and
1-5 WHEREAS, A retired postal worker, Mayor Ward took office on
1-6 April 30, 1981, as a way to help ease his transition into
1-7 retirement; over the next two decades he skillfully guided the city
1-8 through numerous challenging situations, including the 1981 flood,
1-9 and helped to build a more unified community; and
1-10 WHEREAS, This respected gentleman played a leading role in
1-11 bringing many important projects to fruition, such as the building
1-12 of the new wastewater treatment plant and additional water towers,
1-13 the incorporation of the CPA's annual audit into the city's
1-14 finances, and the construction of FM 3435, which bypasses the
1-15 city's downtown area; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure as mayor, Arthur Ward has
1-17 exemplified the highest standards of excellence, dedication, and
1-18 leadership, and his hard work and commitment have immeasurably
1-19 enhanced the community he is proud to call home; now, therefore, be
1-20 it
1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-22 Legislature hereby congratulate Arthur T. Ward on his exceptional
1-23 tenure as mayor of Shiner and commend him for the many significant
1-24 contributions he has made to the betterment of his community; and,
2-1 be it further
2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-3 prepared for Mayor Ward as an expression of high regard by the
2-4 Texas House of Representatives.
