No. 1136 77R16846 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, A 68th birthday is truly cause for a celebration, 1-2 and on May 14, 2001, Leonard Hall of El Paso marked this 1-3 significant occasion in his life; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born on Mother's Day, May 14, 1933, in Eejou, 1-5 Minnesota, to Olaf and Matilda Halstengard, he grew up in a 1-6 close-knit family with 11 siblings on his parents' farm; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Since 1977, Mr. Hall has owned and operated The 1-8 Second Hand Store at 180 North Cotton in El Paso, and his stock 1-9 encompasses residential, medical, commercial, and industrial 1-10 merchandise; founded on the slogan "Why Buy New When Used Will Do," 1-11 the thriving business has become the largest enterprise of its kind 1-12 in the Southwest; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Hall generously shares his good fortune with 1-14 members of the El Paso/Juarez community by providing items such as 1-15 wheelchairs, crutches, and appliances to residents in need; on one 1-16 occasion, when a couple lost their home to a fire, this 1-17 compassionate gentleman rebuilt the family's three-bedroom home and 1-18 even provided them with new central heat and a clothes washer and 1-19 dryer; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Leonard Hall continually demonstrates a selfless 1-21 commitment to his fellowman, and his birthday provides a fitting 1-22 opportunity to recognize him for the positive impact he has had on 1-23 the countless individuals whose lives he has touched; now, 1-24 therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate Leonard Hall on his recent 68th 2-3 birthday and commend him for his humanitarianism; and, be it 2-4 further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Mr. Hall as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-7 House of Representatives.
