By Pitts H.R. No. 1138 77R16842 MJS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Constable Richard G. Schmidt of 1-2 Palmer on April 23, 2001, has brought a profound sense of loss to 1-3 the family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born on May 10, 1931, in Austin, Constable Schmidt 1-5 was raised in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School before 1-6 joining the United States Navy and serving his country for 10 1-7 years, including during the Korean War; and 1-8 WHEREAS, For three decades, Mr. Schmidt was parts manager for 1-9 State Auto Parts in Dallas; after moving to Palmer, he worked as a 1-10 municipal court judge in Garrett and also owned a security firm; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, In November 2000, Mr. Schmidt won election as Ellis 1-13 County Constable of Precinct 2 and served with distinction in this 1-14 position, earning high marks from his colleagues for his hard work 1-15 and fervent desire to improve the quality of life for the citizens 1-16 in the county; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Actively involved in the community, Constable 1-18 Schmidt was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church and the 1-19 American Legion; and 1-20 WHEREAS, This notable Texan was a valued public servant who 1-21 used his leadership and commitment to benefit many residents and 1-22 make a positive difference in Ellis County; Constable Schmidt's 1-23 important efforts will continue to contribute to the well-being of 1-24 our state for years to come; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard G. Schmidt 2-3 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-4 wife, Sue; to his sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Pam Fleming, 2-5 Charles and Tina Landrith, and Todd Gilleland; to his daughters, 2-6 Susan Lewis and Brenda Henson; to his two brothers, Darrell Schmidt 2-7 and Gerald Schmidt; to his 14 grandchildren; and to his other 2-8 relatives and many friends; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-11 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard G. 2-12 Schmidt.
