R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, It is with a heavy heart that the members of this 1-2 chamber bid a reluctant farewell to Brandon Cole Pittman of 1-3 Shreveport, Louisiana, who passed away on February 26, 2001, at the 1-4 age of 21; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born January 26, 1980, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, 1-6 Mr. Pittman graduated from Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, 1-7 where he was a three-time all-state, all-district, and all-city 1-8 defensive lineman; he was named a second team All-USA performer by 1-9 USA Today as a senior in 1998, and he led his school to three 1-10 straight Louisiana I-A titles, a state-record 45 consecutive wins, 1-11 and a No. 3 final national ranking in 1998 by USA Today; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Following his early graduation from high school, 1-13 this talented young man enrolled at The University of Texas at 1-14 Austin and joined the Longhorn football program in January 1999; he 1-15 played in 11 games as a true freshman and as a sophomore played in 1-16 12 contests, three of those as a starter; his sophomore season saw 1-17 him post an impressive 27 tackles, two sacks, five tackles for a 1-18 loss, four quarterback pressures, and one caused fumble; and 1-19 WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman with a genuine zest for life, 1-20 Mr. Pittman was an individual of immense Christian faith who 1-21 thrived on the strength and compassion he derived from his 1-22 close-knit family; The University of Texas has seen fit to pay 1-23 tribute to this beloved young man by naming a scholarship in his 1-24 honor, and throughout the 2001 season the Longhorn football team 2-1 will don a helmet sticker featuring his initials and jersey patch 2-2 with his number, 44; and 2-3 WHEREAS, A loving son and brother and a caring teammate and 2-4 friend, Brandon Cole Pittman touched the lives of many, and 2-5 although his life was tragically cut short, his bright spirit will 2-6 continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all those who held 2-7 him dear; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Brandon Cole Pittman 2-10 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-11 parents, Marc and Judy; to his brother, Chase; to his fiancee, 2-12 Caren Lyons; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be 2-13 it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-16 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-17 Brandon Cole Pittman.
