R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Lohn School in McCulloch County was one of only
1-2 five schools in Texas to receive a 2000-2001 National Title 1
1-3 Distinguished School Award from the U.S. Department of Education;
1-4 and
1-5 WHEREAS, To achieve this noteworthy honor, schools had to be
1-6 nominated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and meet specific
1-7 criteria, which include being a Title 1 Distinguished School during
1-8 1999-2000, enrolling 50 percent of its students from low-income
1-9 families, having an exemption rate on the Texas Assessment of
1-10 Academic Skills (TAAS) test that is below the state average for
1-11 special education students and students with limited English
1-12 proficiency, and earning an "exemplary" rating from the TEA in
1-13 1999-2000; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The Lohn School is home to 107 students in
1-15 pre-kindergarten through grade 12, all located on one campus, and,
1-16 with both the superintendent and principal also serving as
1-17 teachers, class sizes range from four to 12 students in all courses
1-18 except physical education; students benefit from a daily computer
1-19 lab, while the high school students adhere to the state's rigorous
1-20 Recommended High School Graduation Plan, with juniors and seniors
1-21 also having the option of taking classes in which they can obtain
1-22 both high school and college course credit; and
1-23 WHEREAS, With a motto of "Teaching Every Child Every Day,"
1-24 the Lohn School has shown an impressive commitment to educating the
2-1 youth of the Lone Star State; providing all children with the
2-2 opportunity to obtain the skills necessary to succeed in and out of
2-3 the classroom is an undertaking of paramount importance, and it is
2-4 a privilege to commend this fine school for endeavoring to reach
2-5 that goal; now, therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lohn School on its receipt of a
2-8 2000-2001 National Title 1 Distinguished School Award from the U.S.
2-9 Department of Education and extend to the school's students and
2-10 faculty sincere best wishes for continued success.
