                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 1, 2001, the members of Thompson Intermediate
 1-2     School's National Academic League team impressed peers and judges
 1-3     alike with their exceptional performance at this year's national
 1-4     competition, where they claimed the national championship title for
 1-5     the third time in eight years; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, During this challenging contest, students are
 1-7     presented with questions in the fields of math, social studies,
 1-8     language arts, and science, and teams are allowed to deliberate
 1-9     before offering a final answer, thus promoting teamwork and
1-10     cooperation among the youth; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Students from more than 400 schools across the
1-12     United States participate in National Academic League competitions
1-13     each school year, and in the league's nine-year history, the
1-14     Thompson team has made it to the final round five times; this year
1-15     the national finals were held through a video conference, with the
1-16     Thompson team gathering at the Exxon Building in Houston for the
1-17     transmission; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Under the experienced guidance of coach Carolyn
1-19     Carmichael, the team is composed of 20 dedicated seventh-grade and
1-20     eighth-grade students, including Tiffany Lily, Vishal Patel,
1-21     Christine Tran, Van Nguyen, Lam Le, Wesley Bennett, Minh Bui, Ana
1-22     Lopez, Justin Lai, Courtney Grimes, Grace Kim, Michael Cole, Adrian
1-23     Ingalls, Tracie Thomason, Rustam Abedinzadeh, Ryan Fox, Ryan
1-24     Dawson, Bruce Le, Henry Dao, and Richard Quach; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, These impressive young men and women have proven
 2-2     themselves worthy opponents for the nation's top students, and
 2-3     their tireless dedication and desire to achieve are most admirable;
 2-4     they are truly a source of great pride to their community and the
 2-5     State of Texas, and it is a privilege to join in honoring them at
 2-6     this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with the
 2-9     National Academic League team at Pasadena's Thompson Intermediate
2-10     School on earning the organization's national championship and
2-11     extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success in the
2-12     years to come; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-15     House of Representatives.
