R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the close of a distinguished career
1-2 in public education for Tom Myers, and as he embarks on a new
1-3 chapter in his life, it is indeed appropriate to reflect on his
1-4 professional achievements; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Myers holds a bachelor's degree from the College
1-6 of the Ozarks and a master's degree from Sam Houston State Teachers
1-7 College; he gained valuable teaching experience at positions with
1-8 the Galena Park and Pasadena school districts before moving with
1-9 his family to Livingston in 1974; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Since that time, he has built a superb choral
1-11 program at Livingston High School and has been a positive influence
1-12 on many young lives; during an outstanding tenure that has spanned
1-13 more than a quarter-century, Mr. Myers has entered 84 choirs in UIL
1-14 vocal competitions, which have earned the school 14 concert
1-15 plaques, 6 sight-reading plaques, and 55 sweepstakes trophies; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Under his expert direction, Livingston High School
1-17 choirs have been honored as Best of Class at numerous festivals
1-18 throughout the country and, in the past year alone, the women's
1-19 first group was awarded grand champion status and was joined by the
1-20 women's second group and concert choir in receiving first place
1-21 trophies, while the men's group earned second place at the Orlando
1-22 Music Festival; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Myers is highly regarded by his professional
1-24 peers, having served as Texas Music Educators Association region
2-1 and area chairman, as UIL vocal contest chairman, and as a UIL
2-2 adjudicator and clinician throughout the state; and
2-3 WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Tom Myers has instilled
2-4 in his students a love of music that they will treasure throughout
2-5 their lives, and he has earned the lasting respect and admiration
2-6 of all who are privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-8 Legislature hereby congratulate Tom Myers on the occasion of his
2-9 retirement from the public school system and commend him for his
2-10 exceptional tenure as the choir director of Livingston High School;
2-11 and, be it further
2-12 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13 prepared for Mr. Myers as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-14 House of Representatives.
