                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Neall Rose of Dallas is an outstanding leader and
 1-2     educator, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition for
 1-3     her exceptional service on the occasion of her retirement as board
 1-4     chair of Educational First Steps; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, During Mrs. Rose's notable term of leadership from
 1-6     June 1998 to May 2001, the organization increased the number of
 1-7     children served by more than 25 percent, offered additional
 1-8     services, and experienced a significant increase in income; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, An association of educators and volunteers, the
1-10     nonprofit Educational First Steps is dedicated to providing quality
1-11     early childhood education for disadvantaged Dallas-area children;
1-12     over the past decade, the agency has assisted more than 5,000 girls
1-13     and boys from birth to age six with such initiatives as the First
1-14     Steps to Reading curriculum and various educational materials and
1-15     programs donated to affiliated preschools and child-care centers;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, Mrs. Rose is an academic language therapist who was
1-18     employed for many years as an educator and retired as director of
1-19     teacher training at Oklahoma City's Payne Education Center, of
1-20     which she is a lifetime board member; and
1-21           WHEREAS, She has devoted her time and talents as volunteer
1-22     coordinator of the Texas Instruments/SMU/Head Start Project and has
1-23     participated as an advisory board member for Our Friend's Place in
1-24     Dallas; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Selected Hockaday Alumna of the Year in 2000,
 2-2     Mrs. Rose has demonstrated a commitment to her community and the
 2-3     State of Texas that is an inspiration to all who know her, and her
 2-4     achievements and contributions are truly exemplary; now, therefore,
 2-5     be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby commend Neall Rose for her outstanding tenure as
 2-8     chair of the Educational First Steps board of directors and extend
 2-9     to her warmest wishes for continued success in all her future
2-10     endeavors; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Mrs. Rose as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-13     House of Representatives.
