No. 1156 77R14547 JKB-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Evia Lee Thompson 1-2 Mooney have suffered a great loss with her recent passing on April 1-3 19, 2001, and at this time, it is most appropriate to recognize the 1-4 life of this esteemed woman; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Mooney was born in Longview on 1-6 August 20, 1933, to Orange and Evia Polk Thompson; after receiving 1-7 a bachelor's degree from Bishop College and a master of education 1-8 degree from Prairie View A&M University, she earned her 1-9 certification as a reading specialist from Bowling Green State 1-10 University in Ohio and began work on her doctorate at Texas A&M 1-11 University-Commerce; and 1-12 WHEREAS, She was a distinguished teacher, administrator, and 1-13 counselor in Texas public schools for more than three decades, 1-14 inspiring countless youth to strive toward their highest potential 1-15 through her tireless encouragement and kind words; and 1-16 WHEREAS, She gave generously of her time and many talents to 1-17 benefit a host of worthwhile organizations, including the Dallas 1-18 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president in 1-19 1999; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and active member of the 1-21 Dallas West Church of Christ, Mrs. Mooney was a woman of integrity 1-22 and great faith, and while she will be missed, her spirit will live 1-23 on in the hearts and minds of the many people with whom she shared 1-24 her life; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Evia Lee Thompson 2-3 Mooney and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: 2-4 to her husband, Fletcher Mooney; to her mother, Evia Thompson; to 2-5 her daughters, Beverly J. Johnson and Lela M. Cantley; to her sons, 2-6 John W. Johnson, Eric D. Clay, and Marvin Mooney and his wife, 2-7 Doris; to her grandchildren, Scott Selwyn Johnson and Deslock Clay; 2-8 to her brothers and their wives, Clarence and Annette Thompson, 2-9 Kenneth and Linda Thompson, and Renaldo Thompson; to her sisters 2-10 and their husbands, Ongie B. Bolton, Frankie Barnes, Fannie and 2-11 Earl Williams, and Sandra and Tyrone Greer; to her uncles, Clarence 2-12 Polk and Frank Thompson; and to her many other relatives and 2-13 friends; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of 2-16 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Evia Lee 2-17 Thompson Mooney.
