                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Kyle Mitchell of Bangs has been selected as a
 1-2     finalist in the 2001 Craftsman/National Science Teachers
 1-3     Association Young Inventors contest; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Sponsored by Craftsman Tools and Sears Roebuck &
 1-5     Co., the contest is for students in grades two through eight and
 1-6     challenges students to either invent a new tool or rethink an
 1-7     existing one; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Mitchell is a fifth-grade student at J. B.
 1-9     Stephens Elementary School; he received the impetus for his
1-10     invention while watching his grandfather assume an awkward position
1-11     to trim a goat; Mr. Mitchell's inspired answer to the problem was
1-12     the Easy Trim, a device that greatly simplifies the task of
1-13     grooming goats and other animals by holding the animal securely in
1-14     place on an adjustable platform; and
1-15           WHEREAS, One of only a handful of finalists nationwide,
1-16     Mr. Mitchell was honored for his invention with a $5,000 U.S.
1-17     savings bond, and he will travel with his parents, Debbie and Phil
1-18     Mitchell, and his science teacher, Joanna Wright, to the national
1-19     finals award ceremony in September; and
1-20           WHEREAS, With his invention of the Easy Trim, Kyle Mitchell
1-21     has demonstrated great ingenuity and superior problem-solving
1-22     skills, and he is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition
1-23     at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-1     Legislature hereby congratulate Kyle Mitchell on his selection as a
 2-2     finalist in the 2001 Craftsman/National Science Teachers
 2-3     Association Young Inventors competition and extend to him sincere
 2-4     best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-6     prepared for Mr. Mitchell as an expression of high regard by the
 2-7     Texas House of Representatives.
