R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The athletes representing Vernon High School at the 1-2 2001 UIL state track and field meet achieved outstanding success 1-3 during that competition and are truly worthy of special 1-4 recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Senior Chad Pharis, who plans to attend Texas Tech 1-6 University, won the Class 3A high jump championship with a leap of 1-7 six feet, ten inches; this phenomenal performer had set the new 1-8 district record earlier in the year by clearing seven feet, one 1-9 inch; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Aniya Williams, LaToya Richardson, Shanika Conaway, 1-11 and Tiffany Cherry, members of the girls 400-meter relay team, 1-12 earned a bronze medal in that event, as well as for the 800-meter 1-13 relay, in which they set a new school record of 1:42.00; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Boys coach Lee Schur and girls coach Keith Hall 1-15 provided their charges with inspired leadership, and they were ably 1-16 supported in their efforts by assistant coach Jessica Lacy; and 1-17 WHEREAS, These exceptional young athletes are a source of 1-18 great pride to their school and their community and it is indeed 1-19 appropriate that they be honored for their accomplishments; now, 1-20 therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby congratulate the students from Vernon High 1-23 School who participated at the 2001 UIL state track meet and extend 1-24 to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it 2-1 further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for the state qualifiers from Vernon High School's track 2-4 team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-5 Representatives.
