                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Evelyn Blalock and Roy Pace are teaching numerous
 1-2     young middle school students in Texas about the innovative SNAG
 1-3     Golf program in a commendable effort to encourage interest in this
 1-4     healthy sport; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Developed by former Professional Golf Association
 1-6     (PGA) Tour players Wally Armstrong and Terry Anton, SNAG contains
 1-7     all of the basic elements of golf, but in a modified form; the game
 1-8     is a blend of miniature golf and regulation golf and allows for
 1-9     full shots, pitching, chipping, and putting; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Unlike in regulation golf, the ball travels a
1-11     limited distance in SNAG, with the average player striking it a
1-12     maximum of 50 yards; the program also varies in several other ways
1-13     from traditional golf, including the use of only two clubs and a
1-14     ball that is slightly smaller than a tennis ball and covered with
1-15     loop material; moreover, players hit most shots off of a smaller
1-16     rubber pad called the Launch Pad to ensure optimal lie every time
1-17     and, instead of putting into a hole, attempt to stick the ball to
1-18     the Flagsticky; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Ms. Blalock, a former Hall of Fame basketball coach
1-20     at Kilgore College, is an instructor/coordinator at Alpine Target
1-21     Golf Center and head coach of the Longview High School girls' golf
1-22     team, while Mr. Pace is a former PGA player and co-owner of the
1-23     Alpine Target Golf Center; together, they have introduced SNAG Golf
1-24     to middle school children in Longview and have also educated
 2-1     students about the commendable program at the Foster, Forrest Park,
 2-2     and Judson middle schools; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, This outstanding pair are striving to have the SNAG
 2-4     program implemented at the middle school level throughout the Lone
 2-5     Star State; to that end, Mr. Pace held a free clinic for area
 2-6     coaches to see how the program works, enabling them to begin
 2-7     teaching it to students in their schools; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Through their valuable efforts, Ms. Blalock and
 2-9     Mr. Pace are helping to generate interest about golf and providing
2-10     opportunities for countless young people to become involved in this
2-11     lifetime sport; and
2-12           WHEREAS, With their ingenuity, commitment, and passion for
2-13     the game of golf, they are promoting the many benefits of physical
2-14     fitness, and it is most appropriate to pay tribute to them at this
2-15     time; now, therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-17     Legislature hereby commend Evelyn Blalock and Roy Pace for
2-18     encouraging middle school students to learn to play golf and extend
2-19     to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21     prepared for Ms. Blalock and Mr. Pace as an expression of high
2-22     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
