R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On June 15-17, 2001, descendants of Louis and 1-2 Manerva Smith Anderson are gathering in Hitchcock for their first 1-3 Anderson/Smith family reunion; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson made their home at 6429 1-5 O'Brien Street in Hitchcock, and that Galveston County city will 1-6 serve as home base for the reunion festivities; family and friends 1-7 are expected from the Southeast Texas area, including Hitchcock, 1-8 Houston, Galveston, La Marque, and Friendswood, and others will 1-9 journey from Louisiana, Georgia, and as far as California and 1-10 Washington states to participate; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The three-day celebration begins with a welcoming 1-12 program and fish fry on Friday at the Hitchcock home of Jimmy 1-13 Anderson, son of Louis and Manerva Anderson; plans for Saturday 1-14 include a picnic at Highland Bayou Park in La Marque and excursions 1-15 for different age groups; following the 11 a.m. Sunday worship 1-16 service at Galilee Baptist Church in Hitchcock, the home church of 1-17 Louis and Manerva Anderson, a farewell luncheon in the church's 1-18 fellowship hall will close this much-anticipated get-together; and 1-19 WHEREAS, This inaugural reunion of the Anderson and Smith 1-20 families will afford the relatives of Louis and Manerva Anderson 1-21 and their friends the opportunity to reflect on their family's 1-22 distinctive legacy, pay tribute to those relatives who have passed 1-23 on, and note the bonds that unite them today; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Through the years, the contributions made by members 2-1 of the Anderson/Smith family have been interwoven in the compelling 2-2 story of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting that they be 2-3 acknowledged at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby recognize June 15-17, 2001, as the 2-6 Anderson/Smith Reunion Days in Hitchcock and extend to all 2-7 participants sincere wishes for an enjoyable and memorable event.
