R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The 2000 Jarrell High School football team completed
1-2 an outstanding season and its myriad achievements are deserving of
1-3 special legislative recognition; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Head coach Randy Franklin, who is also the school's
1-5 athletic director, guided his team to the District 25-2A
1-6 championship this season and was named the District Coach of the
1-7 Year; moreover, Jarrell, which was reclassified from a Class 1A
1-8 school to a Class 2A school in 2000, surprised many people by
1-9 amassing an 11-2 overall record; and
1-10 WHEREAS, In the University Interscholastic League Class 2A
1-11 Division II state playoffs, the Cougars defeated Johnson City High
1-12 School in the bi-district round and captured the area title by
1-13 clawing their way to a 16-12 victory against Wallis Brazos High
1-14 School; Jarrell put up a determined effort but fell short against
1-15 Refugio High School in its regional game; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Jarrell's Jontue Fears-Hayes was chosen to the Class
1-17 2A All-State honorable mention offensive and defensive football
1-18 teams; joining him as an honorable mention All-State selection were
1-19 teammates Matt Hausenfluke, Justin Bryson, and Brandon Hayes; and
1-20 WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible
1-21 without the significant contributions of all of the team members;
1-22 with hard work, training, and determination, these exemplary young
1-23 men have proven themselves to be formidable competitors, and as
1-24 they take justifiable pride and satisfaction in their tremendous
2-1 season, it is indeed appropriate to honor them at this time; now,
2-2 therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate the 2000 Jarrell High School
2-5 football team on its sterling accomplishments and extend to the
2-6 members of the team sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
2-7 be it further
2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-9 prepared for the team members from Jarrell High School as an
2-10 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
