R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, In its first year in Class 2A, the Jarrell High
1-2 School Cougars boys basketball team had an outstanding 2000 season;
1-3 and
1-4 WHEREAS, Skillfully led by head coach Drew Sumner, the
1-5 Cougars competed in the new District 25 IIA division; after earning
1-6 second place in district, the team advanced all the way to the area
1-7 final of the UIL Class 2A state playoffs and finished the season
1-8 with a superb 21-8 record; and
1-9 WHEREAS, A number of Cougars were recognized for their
1-10 exceptional performances during the season; Coach Sumner was
1-11 selected as District Coach of the Year; Brandon Hayes was chosen as
1-12 the District Defensive Player of the Year and second team all
1-13 state, while Jontue Fears-Hayes and Brent Arldt were named first
1-14 team all district, James Thomas was named second team all district,
1-15 and Frank Makal and J. T. Sladecek received honorable mention
1-16 recognition; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This remarkable season is an apt reflection of the
1-18 hard work and dedication put forth by all the members of the
1-19 Jarrell High School Cougars boys basketball team, and it is indeed
1-20 appropriate that we pay tribute to them at this time; now,
1-21 therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby congratulate the Jarrell High School Cougars
1-24 boys basketball team on its stellar season and extend to its
2-1 players, coaches, and supporters sincere best wishes for continued
2-2 success and happiness.
