R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Winston Churchill High School senior Nicole Melton
 1-2     of San Antonio won the 2001 University Interscholastic League (UIL)
 1-3     Class 5A individual girls state golf title; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, In the state tournament held at the Roy Kizer Golf
 1-5     Course in Austin, Ms. Melton shot an even-par 142 to finish three
 1-6     strokes ahead of defending champion Ashley Knoll of The Woodlands;
 1-7     in two rounds of tournament play, she sank 5 birdies, made 26 pars,
 1-8     and hit 31 of 36 greens in regulation; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A member of three state championship golf teams at
1-10     Winston Churchill, Ms. Melton captured the district, regional, and
1-11     state individual girls golf titles this season; moreover, she has
1-12     played in several American Junior Golf Association tournaments and
1-13     has qualified and competed in the prestigious World Junior
1-14     Championship in Scotland; and
1-15           WHEREAS, This young Texan has also been a top-five-tier
1-16     player in Region IV for three consecutive years; in addition, she
1-17     is a quick study off the course, ranking in the top five percent of
1-18     her graduating class; Ms. Melton's stellar academic record and
1-19     athletic prowess earned her a scholarship to play golf at Texas A&M
1-20     University in College Station; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Ms. Melton has used persistence, hard work,
1-22     training, and prodigious abilities to bring a fitting end to her
1-23     high school athletic career at Winston Churchill; she has proven
1-24     herself to be a formidable competitor, and it is indeed most
 2-1     appropriate to pay tribute to her; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Nicole Melton on garnering the
 2-4     Class 5A individual girls state golf title and extend to her
 2-5     sincere best wishes for success and good fortune in her future
 2-6     endeavors; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-8     prepared for Ms. Melton as an expression of high regard by the
 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
