R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Libraries throughout the El Paso area are linking up
1-2 through the Internet to allow users to search one website to find
1-3 out what library resources are available and where they are
1-4 located; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Area librarians came together to apply for a federal
1-6 grant to pay for the technology needed for the worthwhile project,
1-7 and the City of El Paso library was the first to sign the
1-8 interlocal agreement supporting the program; to take effect, the
1-9 agreement must be approved by the school districts, The University
1-10 of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), El Paso Community College, and El Paso
1-11 County; and
1-12 WHEREAS, The initiative will make it easier for residents of
1-13 the city to access books from any of the city libraries, as well as
1-14 those at UTEP and in area schools; and
1-15 WHEREAS, This innovative program will also allow users to
1-16 designate at which library branch they would like to pick up their
1-17 materials and will provide the community with broader access to
1-18 library materials; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Many people will undoubtedly benefit from the
1-20 user-friendly program, as they will be able to retrieve valuable
1-21 information and obtain requested materials in a more expedient and
1-22 efficient manner; now, therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24 Legislature hereby commend the City of El Paso for making access to
2-1 library materials more efficient.
