                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 31, 2001, John South is retiring from the
 1-2     Texas Agricultural Extension Service after 31 years of
 1-3     distinguished service; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mr. South has spent 14 years of his employment in
 1-5     Tarrant County and has developed an excellent relationship with
 1-6     local citizens by engaging them in volunteer roles as program area
 1-7     committee members; known for his superb program development skills
 1-8     and ability to motivate people, Mr. South yearly engages 45
 1-9     committee members in ongoing roles in program creation,
1-10     implementation, and evaluation; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Such successful programs as "Horse-O-Rama" and
1-12     "Pizza Ranch" are the results of Mr. South's committed efforts and
1-13     unparalleled expertise, and his ideas and program models have been
1-14     shared at conferences nationwide; furthermore, Mr. South coauthored
1-15     a research study titled "The Economic Impact of Agribusiness in
1-16     Tarrant County," which has been invaluable to the area's
1-17     agriculture community; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Mr. South's tireless commitment to increasing
1-19     visibility and support for the total extension program in urban
1-20     Tarrant County has brought the program significant media exposure,
1-21     including regular features in cable and network television
1-22     programming; he has been accorded various honors, including the
1-23     USDA Honor Award from the Secretary of Agriculture in Washington,
1-24     D.C., in 1999 for his exemplary urban agriculture programs, and he
 2-1     is the Texas Agricultural Extension Service's first recipient of
 2-2     the title "Regents Fellow" from the Texas A&M Board of Regents; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Having positively influenced his community, his
 2-4     profession, and the extension service, Mr. South has undoubtedly
 2-5     earned a rich, happy, and fulfilling retirement; now, therefore, be
 2-6     it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby commend John South for his more than three
 2-9     decades of outstanding service with the Texas Agricultural
2-10     Extension Service and extend to him best wishes for success and
2-11     happiness in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-13     prepared for Mr. South as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-14     House of Representatives.
