R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, On April 22, 2001, the Atlanta Falcons selected
 1-2     Robert Garza of Rio Hondo in the fourth round of the National
 1-3     Football League (NFL) Draft; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The 99th player taken overall in the draft,
 1-5     Mr. Garza recently completed an outstanding athletic career at
 1-6     Texas A&M University-Kingsville, which competes at the National
 1-7     Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II level; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A 6-foot-2, 295-pound center, Mr. Garza was chosen
 1-9     as the Lone Star Conference's Offensive Newcomer of the Year in
1-10     1997 and was an All-Conference pick for three consecutive seasons;
1-11     moreover, he was named as a Little All-American as a junior and
1-12     senior and holds the singular distinction of being the only player
1-13     from his school to be drafted this year; and
1-14           WHEREAS, In addition to his football achievements, Mr. Garza
1-15     also excelled in track and field for the Javelinas; he holds the
1-16     school record in the shot put and finished as high as second at the
1-17     NCAA Division II track meet; he has thrown the shot put 60 feet and
1-18     is also accomplished in the discus event; and
1-19           WHEREAS, This outstanding athlete impressed NFL scouts and
1-20     coaches with his superb play at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama;
1-21     a formidable competitor, Mr. Garza has used his toughness,
1-22     tenacity, and football savvy to become a dominating player on the
1-23     field, and it is indeed most appropriate to pay tribute to him at
1-24     this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-2     Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Garza for being selected by
 2-3     the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft and
 2-4     extend to him sincere best wishes for good fortune and happiness in
 2-5     his future endeavors; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 2-8     House of Representatives.
