No. 1195 77R17336 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Luke Ocker has earned the distinction of being the 1-2 salutatorian at Rusk High School, and for achieving this auspicious 1-3 honor he is truly deserving of special legislative recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, An honors student and All-American Scholar with a 1-5 grade point average of 3.89, Mr. Ocker served on the student 1-6 council as chairman of the energy and environment committee, won 1-7 third place in UIL headline writing in 1999-2000, and took first 1-8 prize in the school's science fair in 1998; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He has lived his entire life on a farm and during 1-10 that time has developed an interest in animals, and he has shown 1-11 cows at the Cherokee County Livestock Show for three years; and 1-12 WHEREAS, This highly motivated young man also finds time to 1-13 serve his community as a mentor to prekindergarten students, as a 1-14 coach for the little league baseball team and the little dribblers, 1-15 and as president of the youth group at Sacred Heart Catholic 1-16 Church; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A member of the National Honor Society, Mr. Ocker 1-18 also earned a place on the All-State Academic Football Team, was 1-19 consistently tabbed for all-district football and baseball honors, 1-20 and won the prestigious E. H. Whitehead Award as best all-around 1-21 male athlete; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Ocker has earned the respect and admiration of 1-23 his friends and classmates at Rusk High School, and as he embraces 1-24 a future bright with promise, it is most fitting to pay tribute to 2-1 him for his outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate Luke Ocker on being named 2001 2-4 salutatorian at Rusk High School and extend to him sincere best 2-5 wishes for success and happiness in all his future endeavors; and, 2-6 be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for Mr. Ocker as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-9 House of Representatives.
