R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, San Antonio City Councilman Edward Garza was elected 1-2 mayor of the nation's ninth largest city on May 5, 2001; and 1-3 WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Garza attended The 1-4 University of Texas and Texas A&M University, earning a bachelor's 1-5 degree in landscape architecture and a master of science degree in 1-6 land development; and 1-7 WHEREAS, He is a former assistant to Senator Mario Gallegos, 1-8 and he worked for the late U.S. Congressman Frank Tejeda; a San 1-9 Antonio City Council member since 1997, Mr. Garza led efforts to 1-10 promote inner-city revitalization and to add fluoride to the water; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Bringing knowledge and political adeptness gained 1-13 from his experience, Mr. Garza ran on a platform that emphasized 1-14 neighborhood revitalization as a strategy to improve opportunities 1-15 and strengthen the local economy; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Winning nearly 60 percent of the vote from a cross 1-17 section of the San Antonio population, Mr. Garza has impressed many 1-18 with his leadership skills, dedication to the community, and sound 1-19 initiatives, and he will undoubtedly continue to be a source of 1-20 inspiration and good works in the Lone Star State for a long time 1-21 to come; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby congratulate Edward D. Garza on winning election 1-24 as mayor of San Antonio and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-1 the future; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for Mayor Garza as an expression of high regard by the 2-4 Texas House of Representatives.
