R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, James DeWitt has been accorded a great honor with 1-2 his selection to receive a prestigious Fulbright Scholar Student 1-3 award in the field of political science for the 2001-2002 school 1-4 year; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Fulbright Program, overseen by the J. William 1-6 Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, was created more than 50 years 1-7 ago to increase mutual understanding between the people of the 1-8 United States and those of other countries while promoting 1-9 excellence in scholarship; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The son of Harland and Mary DeWitt, this exceptional 1-11 Texan graduated from Southwestern University, where he earned a 1-12 degree in international studies with a German emphasis; he was 1-13 cofounder of the Southwestern University International Student and 1-14 Alumni Network and president of the German Club, and he spent his 1-15 junior year in a program at the Universitaet Osnabrueck and the 1-16 Goethe Institute in Germany; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The Fulbright Scholarship award is enabling 1-18 Mr. DeWitt to revisit Germany to conduct research in the field of 1-19 national identity in modern Germany; this important academic work 1-20 will undoubtedly prove beneficial to policymakers and scholars 1-21 alike and will aid Mr. DeWitt's studies at the George Bush School 1-22 of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University, which he 1-23 will attend when he returns from Germany in 2002; now, therefore, 1-24 be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby commend and congratulate James DeWitt on his 2-3 receipt of a Fulbright award and extend to him sincere best wishes 2-4 for success in all his future endeavors.
