                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Daniel Fishburne
 1-2     Secker of Midland suffered a profound loss when this esteemed Texan
 1-3     perished when the World War II-era aircraft he piloted crashed near
 1-4     Odessa on May 14, 2001; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born September 7, 1939, Mr. Secker learned to fly
 1-6     and sail at an early age; in 1964, he graduated second in his class
 1-7     from The Citadel, where he majored in political science, and served
 1-8     six years in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, attaining the
 1-9     rank of captain; and
1-10           WHEREAS, He became an independent oilman in Midland, working
1-11     as a certified public landman, and he was a member of the Permian
1-12     Basin Landmen's Association and the American Association of
1-13     Petroleum Landmen; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Flying was his lifelong passion; he was active in
1-15     the Quiet Birdmen Fraternity, the oldest flying fraternity in the
1-16     world, the Air Force Association, the Confederate Air Force (CAF),
1-17     and the Carolina Wing of the CAF; involved in the Civil Air Patrol
1-18     for 43 years, Mr. Secker was a member of the High Sky Wing, the
1-19     B-29 and B-24 Squadrons of the CAF Ghost Squadron; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Known widely as a pilot's pilot, this distinguished
1-21     airman was a CAF check pilot and instructor pilot who had logged
1-22     over 5,000 flight hours; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Mr. Secker was a man of adventure who was respected
1-24     and admired by many, and his spirit will undoubtedly live on in the
 2-1     hearts of all those who were blessed to have known him; now,
 2-2     therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby honor the memory of Daniel Secker and extend
 2-5     deepest condolences to the members of his family:  to his wife,
 2-6     Mary Margaret Secker; to his parents, William and Mette Secker; to
 2-7     his brother, William Sheffield Secker; to his daughter, Meredith
 2-8     Secker, and her husband, Ian Zapata; to his sons, Daniel Secker and
 2-9     Walker Secker; to his stepson, Paul Byrom, and his wife, Sheri; to
2-10     his stepdaughter,  Marietta Metcalfe, and her husband, Albert; and
2-11     to his six grandchildren, other family, and countless friends; and,
2-12     be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-15     Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Daniel
2-16     Fishburne Secker.
