                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     Billye Suber Williams Aaron of Atlanta, Georgia, for her many
 1-3     achievements and significant efforts on behalf of Texas College;
 1-4     and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native of Palestine, Texas, Mrs. Aaron is a
 1-6     graduate of Lincoln High School in Dallas and received her bachelor
 1-7     of arts degree from Texas College in Tyler, from which she
 1-8     graduated cum laude and which awarded her an honorary doctor of
 1-9     letters degree; she earned her master's degree from Atlanta
1-10     University and continued her postgraduate studies at the University
1-11     of California at Berkeley; and
1-12           WHEREAS, On this solid educational foundation, she built a
1-13     successful career as an educator and community leader, teaching
1-14     college-level English and reading before becoming the co-host of
1-15     Today in Georgia in 1968; in 1980, she joined the staff of the
1-16     United Negro College Fund, Inc., and after seven years as its area
1-17     development director, she was named vice president of the southern
1-18     region and held that position until 1994; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A newly elected member of the board of trustees at
1-20     her alma mater, Texas College, Mrs. Aaron has given generously of
1-21     her time and talents to the school, as well as to a host of other
1-22     worthwhile civic initiatives, including Morehouse College, UNICEF,
1-23     the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, the APEX Museum, and
1-24     the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra League; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The honorary chair of the 2001 YWCA Salute to Women
 2-2     of Achievement, she is a former recipient of the award from the
 2-3     Greater Atlanta branch of the organization, and she was named as
 2-4     one of Georgia's 50 most influential black women; in addition, she
 2-5     was honored with the Human Service Award from the Atlanta National
 2-6     Association of Black Social Workers and the Georgia Association of
 2-7     Broadcasters' Award for Excellence in Women's News; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Having traveled across the country and around the
 2-9     world, Mrs. Aaron has a vast wealth of experiences from which to
2-10     draw, and coupled with her strong educational background and her
2-11     devotion to improving the lives of others, she is a remarkable
2-12     source of inspiration and pride for all those fortunate to know of
2-13     her; she is a woman of integrity and accomplishment, and it is a
2-14     privilege to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-16     Legislature hereby congratulate Billye Suber Williams Aaron on
2-17     being named to the board of trustees at Texas College, commend her
2-18     on her many successes, and extend to her sincere best wishes for
2-19     success and happiness in all of her future endeavors; and, be it
2-20     further
2-21           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-22     prepared for Mrs. Aaron as an expression of high regard by the
2-23     Texas House of Representatives.
