No. 1228 77R17380 JKB-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, June 1, 2001, marks the conclusion of a 1-2 distinguished career for Elizabeth Lee Martin of Austin, and her 1-3 retirement from Southwestern Bell provides a fitting opportunity to 1-4 reflect on her outstanding tenure; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Warren, Arkansas, Ms. Martin graduated 1-6 from Southern Methodist University in 1973 and earned her master's 1-7 degree from The University of Texas at Dallas in 1985; she joined 1-8 the staff of Southwestern Bell in Dallas in 1974 and has since 1-9 proven herself to be a tremendous asset to the company and its 1-10 clients; and 1-11 WHEREAS, During a tenure that has spanned more than 25 years, 1-12 Ms. Martin has held various management positions within the 1-13 company, including assignments in St. Louis, Missouri, Washington, 1-14 D.C., and Austin, and she has long served as the company's advisor 1-15 on telecommunications issues and the legislative process; though 1-16 she accepted a position as a general manager for the regulatory 1-17 division in January 2000, she has continued to provide invaluable 1-18 assistance to the company's external affairs organization during 1-19 this year's legislative session; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A dedicated community leader, this esteemed Texan is 1-21 a former board member for the Texas Telephone Association 1-22 Foundation and the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association, and 1-23 she is currently active in Leadership Texas, the Texas Women's 1-24 Alliance, and the Brookings Institution's Congressional Fellows 2-1 Program; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Ms. Martin is a woman of admirable dedication and 2-3 tremendous knowledge, and it is a privilege to honor her as she 2-4 embarks on her well-deserved retirement; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate Elizabeth Lee Martin on her 2-7 exceptional career with Southwestern Bell and extend to her sincere 2-8 best wishes for continued happiness and success in all of her 2-9 future endeavors; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Ms. Martin as an expression of high regard by the 2-12 Texas House of Representatives.
