R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of William H. Humphries of Tyler on May
 1-2     18, 2001, at the age of 68, has brought a great loss to the family
 1-3     and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on June 9, 1932, in Edgewood, he graduated from
 1-5     Edgewood High School and North Texas State University in Denton
 1-6     before serving with distinction as a first lieutenant in the United
 1-7     States Air Force; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Humphries
 1-9     returned to his Edgewood roots, where he owned and operated
1-10     Citizens Lumber Company for four decades; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Actively involved in the community, Mr. Humphries
1-12     was a member of the Edgewood School Board, city council, Lions
1-13     Club, chamber of commerce, Edgewood Lodge No. 870 AF&AM, and the
1-14     Dallas Scottish Rite; he was chairman of the Van Zandt Democratic
1-15     Party, founder and president of the Edgewood Heritage Park Museum,
1-16     and chairman of the board of the First National Bank of Edgewood;
1-17     he was also a valued and highly respected congregant of Cheatham
1-18     Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served in many
1-19     capacities; and
1-20           WHEREAS, His impressive record of professional and civic
1-21     service speaks volumes about his character and devotion to
1-22     bettering his community; through his valuable efforts and
1-23     leadership, Mr. Humphries made a lasting impact on many lives, and
 2-1     his many good works and deeds will continue to contribute to the
 2-2     well-being of this state for years to come; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, his bright spirit
 2-4     and significant contributions will live on in the memories of all
 2-5     those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives hereby pay
 2-7     tribute to the life of William H. Humphries and extend sincere
 2-8     sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Pattizo Martin
 2-9     Humphries; to his daughter and son-in-law, LuCinda and Kyle Oakley;
2-10     to his son and daughter-in-law, William Henry (Hal) and Carla
2-11     Humphries; to his grandchildren, John Matthew Oakley, Lauren
2-12     Elizabeth Oakley, and Dustin Lucas Humphries; to his brothers and
2-13     sisters-in-law, James Eldridge and Nell Humphries, and Stanley
2-14     Barber and Virginia Humphries; and to his other relatives and many
2-15     friends; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-18     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-19     William Humphries.
